What (not) to eat to avoid wrinkles?

Post by Macrobian » Sun Sep 08, 2019 4:16 am

Skin wrinkling: can food make a difference? - was a question asked by Purba et al. in 2001. They focussed on skin wrinkling in a sun-exposed site and investigated whether food intake was correlated with wrinkling in the 453 participants. Although it is only a correlation study (and correlation does not necessarily imply causation), the measure of skin wrinkling was objective- it was assessed using a cutaneous microtopographic method.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a high intake of vegetables, legumes and olive oil appeared to be protective against cutaneous actinic damage - interestingly, they collectively explain as much as 20% of the variance. A high intake of meat, dairy and butter was associated with more wrinkling.

I've read that sugar is also a major cause of skin wrinkling and aging because of the inflammation it causes in our system. Check out this article: https://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/beauty ... 2jib2.html

Yes, this is also one of the findings of Purba et al. - sugar accelerates ageing throughout the entire body, not just the skin.
