New insight into type 2 diabetes and hyperinsulinemia

Post by AlbertY » Thu Oct 31, 2019 7:02 pm

There is a recent paper shows that hyperinsulinemia (high blood insulin level) can cause cell senescence in the brain, which offers a direct connection between peripheral hyperinsulinemia, as found in prediabetes, age-related neurodegeneration and cognitive decline.

In a recent Petter Attia podcast, he interviewed Jason Fung and discussed the fasting, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Highlights that "We think of all these responses, obesity, insulin resistance, and the beta-cell failure, as pathologic. They're actually protective...Your body is actually trying to protect itself against the root cause of the problem which is too much insulin, too much glucose." — Jason Fung

I really recommend lessoning if you or people you care about have T2D, it actually blew my mind and reshaped my understanding of insulin resistance.

The Peter Attia pocast with Jason Fung was great. Listened to it a while back, walking in the Swedish woods.

I have a friend with T2 Diabetes and also, unfortunately kidney disease which requires dialysis (he took ibuprophen for pain for years, and that is the suspected cause).

He is about to try daily NAD+ and Resveratrol. I am wondering what the potential is for his kidneys.

Dr. Jason Fung certainly provides a lot of hopeful information for folks with t2 diabetes and kidney function issues. I have plenty of folks to share this with.

it is staggering to see how many people are struggling with diabetes, and how many members here know someone in that situation.

i an wondering if fasting is an option for diabetics, or diabetics with kidney failure. if not then taking the molecules that mimic it can be a life saver.
Taking:
Resveratrol 400mg since June 2019; 600mg since October 1
NMN Sublingual 250mg since june 2019 500mg since September 2019
NAD+ Nasal, appx 100mg per day since September 2019; 200mg per day beginning mid November

Type 2 diabetes can be cured with weight loss and exercise (as long as beta cells are still functioning).

I would contact Jason Fung MD, kidney specialist who prescribes fasting. It may even regenerate kidney cells and make your friend regain some function. But he must work with an MD on this.
