I was a national class middle distance runner (800m & 1500m)… then moved up to
distance events (10000m to half marathon)… then to the marathon. Received a
hamstring injury & a bout of Atrial Fibrillation (training hard whilst stressed &
Distanced myself from competition for a few years & just focussed on
training for keeping healthy, fit & conditioned. During this time I have recently taking
up boxing training to increase exercise for the upper body as well as for the anaerobic
nature of the training (as opposed to my past strong aerobic focussed training).
Sport history & NMN goals:
– National (Australian) finalist in the 800m & 1500m.
– Competed at the Australian Championships (Nationals) for Track & Field (800m,1500m); Cross Country & the Marathon.
Goals for NMN: to build muscle (body building) as a vegan.
I’m taking a break from competitive running (i.e. the Marathon) due to bout of Atrial Fibrillation whilst training (too hard) for the Marathon. The Atrial Fibrillation is resolved but decided to take a different sporting/fitness route – building strength/muscle. Still running, but also doing boxing training, conditioning training (i.e. HIIT, plyometrics).
NMN Experience & Vegan Reasoning: I’ve always been lean, hence the middle distance/long distance direction in sport in the past. Due to this I have never focused on building muscle, hence a totally new direction physically.
I’ve been taking the NMN for about 3 weeks now & have noticed an increased improvement in muscle size & definition as well as boxing endurance (I think recovery has improved also).
I feel this would also show up if I was to focus on distance running… but due to the nature of current training, doing too much distance running would be counterproductive to building muscle.
